Coeliac and NCGS: What’s The Difference?

Another teeny video for you today from Dr Tom O’Bryan. This is a nice simple explanation of the difference between coeliac disease and non-coeliac gluten sensitivity. He explains that we previously thought of all gluten illness as coeliac disease but in the past 2 years, it has been officially accepted that not all gluten illness is coeliac disease and some people don’t have villi problems but still have a gluten illness.

  1. A friend of mine has recently been officially diagnosed with NCGS. However this was after years of allergies, asthma and being ‘diagnosed’ with IBS. Also a lot of badgering of her GP to refer her – especially after her coeliac test (incl biopsy) came back negative. She is a very determined and articulate lady and she used info i passed to her from your site in pursuing answers. Her eventual NCGS diagnosis was by an NHS consultant within Worcestershire! So the message is slowly getting through. When he finally made the diagnosis he shook her hand and said ‘thank you – I have learned a lot’. Still some way to go on this but good to see a ray of hope!!

  2. Please could I have the Worc’s Consultant details too as I live in that area.
